Resilience

Avocado pit swaddled and tucked away.
Weeks later sending forth roots.
Too small to sustain your stem, I wait.
I am too long in remembering,
And tender shoots turn brown.

I reproach myself for this neglect,
Disappointment and opportunity wasted.
As you return to earth, I find the lesson.
Order more green avocados.
Learning leads to new growth.

Life and plants are teachers. While I have learned a great deal from gardening friends, especially those in Twitter, the greatest lessons have come from the experience of both success and failure.
